Dream Theater – Thoughts on Distance Over Time and More
My overall feeling with Distance Over Time is that Dream Theater has gotten its magic back! I’ve heard so many elements of what made me love this band in the first place that I can’t help but enjoy the music. I see this as Dream Theater acknowledging they write better music when they compose together, rather than making the entire project the undertaking of one or two people. If this album isn’t proof of that, I don’t know what is.

Most recently, Evan transcribed all guitar parts from Cynic’s iconic debut, Focus. The book is out now via Sheet Happens Publishing and you can get it in a few different formats. In this interview, you will discover how this project came about, what Paul Masvidal himself thought of Evan’s work, how he impressed John Petrucci when he won Ernie Ball’s “Match the Master” contest, why he wanted to explore transcribing guitar parts, and how he approaches guitar playing in general.
Gear Summary of 2018
2018 was a continuation of 2017. I had the same goal, but now I was getting more comfortable with home recording, as well as writing music. I sold a few items to help fund some of the purchases, but those were things I wasn’t really using all too often. It was an interesting year that got me more involved with DAW plug-ins, swapping pickups, pitch shifting, and more tone chasing.
Delta Works – Reviews of Standalone Tracks
I like their psychedelic side more than anything. It really brought back memories from a different life and I thoroughly enjoyed that while I reviewed their music.
Underrated Albums: Metallica – …And Justice For All
I can’t help but feel …And Justice For All will always remain somewhat underrated. The production debate and the overwhelming press coverage on some of the other albums will always push Justice to the back burner. It’s not fair, though. This is such a killer album.
Message In A Cloud – Anassa (Album Review)
Anassa, which, according to Google translations means Queen in Greek, features 6 instrumental songs. While they have some different aspects to them, all 6 songs explore a “distinctive melancholic sound”, as the bands puts it.
Bohemian Rhapsody – Movie Review
Certain things should not have been pinned entirely on Freddie and those things will always leave me with mixed feelings. But if this film inspired people who weren’t fans before to do more research on Queen and discover this amazing band and their music, then it has done its job.
