Gear Summary of 2021
One tradition I’ve started a while back, and am continuing with this post, is an annual summary of the gear I’ve purchased. It allows me to share my feedback with you all, but I can also look back and analyze how much each purchase was utilized.
Gear Summary of 2020
If you reflect back, you always see some excellent decisions and some not-so-good ones. You learn a lot from these over the years. And you grow as a musician so you can focus on what you need in your own musical journey. I also share these with the hope that it will inform you of some cool products that you either may not be aware of or have wanted to get for a while.
Checking out Positive Grid’s Spark
While some features have room for improvement, the Spark remains an awesome practice companion even in its current form. It sounds great and is extremely easy to use. It will free up a lot of your time so you can focus on your playing. Everything else – the smart jam, song analysis, Bluetooth connection, audio interface capability – is just icing on the cake.
Gear Summary of 2019
I know most of my readers are into gear. So, here’s a summary of what I was up to in 2019.
Thoughts on Amp Modeling
Not only is today’s technology capable of handling many different variables, it’s also becoming harder to be aware of updates when they come frequently. But I’m already at a level where I know enough to get a tone I like and keep a set up that is flexible, easy to use, and that offers a big variety of tones. My Current Travel Gear for Practice
This is my current travel gear and so far, everything has been working well to keep me practicing with a wide variety of tones.

I sold a few items to help fund some of the purchases, but those were things I wasn’t really using all too often. It was an interesting year that got me more involved with DAW plug-ins, swapping pickups, pitch shifting, and more tone chasing.
Home Recording Journey: Theory, Drum Samples, EQ
One of my goals on this site is to share my journey in writing my own music. I am not an expert in home recording or guitar playing, but I think it’s important for people who are at different levels of their journey to share what they’ve learned. I’ve picked up a lot from others’ …...
Gear Summary of 2017
As we are about to leave another year behind, I would like to reflect on 2017. There are so many things we can talk about… best albums of the year, best live bands of the year, artists we lost in 2017, etc. They’re all interesting topics, but I’ll save them for another time. As you …...
My Jackson Professional Fusion EX
As you may have noticed, I’ve been a little quiet lately. I was away on a trip and in order to truly rest, I decided I didn’t want to spend too much time in front of a computer or tablet. I was in Istanbul, Turkey to visit my family. I’ve been in Massachusetts for 7 …...
